The Final Voyage is a composition for Brass Band & Percussion based on
the final voyage of James Cook and was commissioned by Glyn Williams & Aldbourne Brass Band for the 46th Brass In Concert Championships 2023.

The piece is written in three descriptive sections:

The first section represents Captain James Cook being considered a god by the natives of Hawaii. The music is relaxed and uses motifs from Gilbert Vinter's "James Cook Circumnavigator". The piece opens with a trio consisting of Flugel, Horn & Trombone and later introduces the cornet soloist who portrays the role of James Cook throughout.

The second section describes a battle between Cook's crew and the natives of the island who had betrayed Cook and started to attack, ultimately leading to his murder.

The final section is somewhat hymn-like and uses the James Cook Circumnavigator theme again, but this time in a more solemn manner; symbolising the great Captain Cook's death on Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii.
