  • Tangata whenua (Pronounced " Tang-Atta Fen-Oo-Wa" ), Is a fiery-tribal composition for Brass Band & Percussion which was commisioned by Glyn Williams & Aldbourne Brass Band for the
46th Brass In Concert Championships 2023.

The title is a Māori word meaning "People Of The Land", referring to the natives of New Zealand. The composition is written in the style of a Tribal - Māori - Drum 'n' Bass - Funk Fusion and describes
an aceptance of passage between the Rangatira (native chiefs), and Captain James Cook; surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the intrigued natives and an excited crew exploring new found lands.

The piece features solos for Eb bass, Cornet and Trombone and there is an optional improvised didgeridoo part throughout. The composition ends abruptly with the word 'Hui', which is another Māori word meaning "A Gathering / Meeting".
