Newbridge - is dedicated to the memory of the 75 men from Newbridge, Wales, who lost their lives in the first world war. The piece is a slow, hymn-like melody, capturing the solemnity and reflection of this great sacrifice. Its simple, flowing lines represent both the quiet strength and the deep sorrow of a community forever marked by their loss. As the piece unfolds, it invites us to pause, remember, and honour those who gave their lives in service. The melody serves as a timeless tribute echoing the resilience and courage of Newbridge's fallen heroes.
Newbridge, a small town in Caerphilly, South Wales, owes much of its development to
the coal industry in the 19th century. The construction of the town's bridge in the late 1700s led to increased trade and connectivity, cementing its place in local history. In 1925, the Newbridge Memorial Hall and institute, affectionately known as The Memo, was built as a tribute to the 75 men from the town who perished in the First World War. Over the years, The Memo has become a central part of Newbridge's community life, hosting concerts, events, and celebrations that continue to bring the community together. -
