Hiraeth

Tenor Horn, Brass Band & Percussion

Hiraeth is a Welsh word, and in the nation's culture portrays a deep longing for something, especially one's home. It is a complex word that is difficult to translate into English, but is often described as a combination of homesickness, loneliness, grief, and nostalgia.

"Hiraeth captures the emotion experienced when longing for home - and, of course, home isn't always just a place, is it? To me, this music expresses the feeling of being far from loved ones; just underneath the surface lies that innate human desire to have a sense of belonging, to somewhere or someone."
