Concert Music

Endeavour is a composition for Brass Band & Percussion, commissioned by Glyn Williams & Aldbourne Brass Band for the 46th Brass In Concert Championships 2023.

The piece is named after HMS Endeavour, a British Royal Navy Vessel that James Cook commanded on his first voyage of discovery from 1768 to 1771. The piece begins with Gilbert Vinter's James Cook Circumnavigator and later navigates through the British Royal Naval marches: Heart of Oak, Sarie Marais and The Horn Pipe.

The piece also quotes music associated to the sea such as the opening horn motif from Wagner's Flying Dutchman Overture, the popular sea shanty Drunken Sailor and the original Blue Peter theme Barnacle Bill.
