Concert Opener

Young blood is a 3 minute concert opener written for Foden's Brass In Concert programme 2017. The composition is inspired by the famous Young Blood Brass Band, an American riot - jazz band that formed in high school 1995. The purpose of the composition is to introduce each section of the ensemble, starting with the percussion playing loud and exciting pulsating rhythms which allow the cornet section time to walk on until they start playing. The bass line follows this; exploiting the funky riff in which the piece is harmonically grounded on. Next the flugel, baritones and horns enter which is shortly followed by the remaining instruments; the trombones. Finally, after al the excitement of the percussion fill, the conductor appears to direct the band in the closing statement, ending on a huge climax.
